Penis
pumping equipment 101
Welcome
back fellow pumpers!
Congratulations,
you made it to stage 2 of our course, entitled
"How to Select your Pumping Equipment."
As the title says, in this section you will learn
EVERYTHING you need to know to get into your first
"professional grade" penis pump. WARNING:
this is a long article so please bookmark this
page if necessary.
Let's
get to it!
To
select the basic penis pumping equipment, you
will need the following:
1) A vacuum pump
2) A penis cylinder
3) Lube
1.
Vacuum Pump
There are two types of vacuum pumps available
- the manual handpump or the electrical pump.
Manual
Handpumps
Manual handpumps are almost always "trigger
style" handpumps designed for a one-handed
operation and feature a pressure gauge and a
quick release valve for safety reasons. Two
types of handpumps you'll see most often are
the MityVac and the MiniVac. Both are very similar
in operation and features and are extremely
reliable. The differences that we found between
the MityVac and the MiniVac are as follows:
the MityVac is larger and slightly heavier than
the MiniVac, but the MityVac's quick release
can be accessed by the index finger making it
truly a one-handed operation (the MiniVac's
quick release button is just out of reach from
the index finger).
Here
are some pictures of the MityVac and the MiniVac
for reference.

For
beginner pumpers, we recommend you select either
a MityVac or a MiniVac handpump for the entry-level
cost and steadfast reliability.
Electric
pumps
The other type of pump is the electrical style
vacuum pump. As one can expect, there are several
different electronic pumps available. The ones
you'll hear about the most are Dr Joel Kaplan's
MegaVac series; CTC's XL series of pumps, and
now PumpToy's
QS-7 programmable pump.
Both
Dr Joel Kaplan and CTC's electric pumps offer
hands-free pumping operation and a new pulsating
pressure (suck n release) feature promoting
faster results by continually circulating fresh
blood in the penile tissues. These pumps do
the job nicely and are quite reliable. However,
PumpToy's just came out with the Ferrari of
all electric pumps called the QS-7
programmable vacuum pump.
PumpToy's
QS-7 programmable pump is a technological
breakthrough in the penis pumping industry!
This electronic pump connects to your PC and
allows you, THE USER, to program any pumping
profiles you want by vacuum and duration. Using
the QS-7 software, QuickSilver, the user may
pulse the pressure; ramp up, hold, then ramp
down; a combination of the two; or anything
in between as your heart desires! Once you get
your favorite routine, you may save the profile
on your harddrive and run it over and over again!
Simply put, the QS-7 puts you in total "hands-free"
control over how you want your penis pumped.
If
an electric pump is what you want and you want
the BEST MONEY CAN BUY, look no further than
PumpToy's QS-7
You will not be disappointed!
2.
The Penis Cylinder
The second piece of equipment you will need is
a penis cylinder. We call the "penis cylinder"
because this tube pumps only the penis. With that
said, there is another cylinder called the "penis
& scrotum" cylinder which pumps the entire
package. But for now, we'll explain how to select
a "penis cylinder," since the other
is optional.
As
said earlier, the penis cylinder houses and pumps
only the penis. The characteristics of the cylinder
worth taking not on are as follows:
The
base: Can be rimmed (flared), rimless
(flareless), contoured or come with a seal.
The cylinder wall:
Can be straight diameter all the way up the tube
or be tapered narrowing at the top
The top: Can
be straight cap, or a concaved cap, or non of
the above for a single piece mold.
The diameter:
Penis cylinders come in different diameter sizes.
Actual sizing procedures are discussed in the
following articles.
The
base of the cylinder
This is the part of the cylinder that will be
contacting your body and is important in the
case of comfort and a proper seal. The most
comfortable base are the ones that come with
a seal, like the VelSeal
penis cylinder. The next is the contoured base,
like Boston Pump's "contour design."
The next on the comfort level is the rimmed
(flared) cylinder like Dr Joel Kaplan's 1st
expansion cylinders. And for professionals,
the least comfortable is the rimless (flareless)
cylinder that is made to dig into the body and
suspensory ligament for maximum stretch. For
sealing qualities, the cylinders with a seal,
like the VelSeal,
are the easiest cylinders to establish and maintain
an airtight seal. All the plastic to body type
cylinders are roughly the same for sealing qualities.
The
cylinder wall
This part of the cylinder can either be equal
diameter from the base to the top or tapered,
whereas the diameter decreases in size as it
approaches the top. For the latter, it is typical
for the total decrease in diameter not to exceed
1/4 inches, e.g. a 2 inch diameter cylinder
will be 2 inches in diameter at the base and
tapered to 1.75 inch diameter at the top. Those
who have a noticeably larger penis head, may
want to consider a straight walled cylinder.
For everyone else, the taper should not be an
issue during cylinder selection.
The
top
All straight wall cylinders are made of two
pieces of acrylic: The base/wall and the cap
(the top). For most penis cylinders, they use
a flat (straight) piece of plastic vs. a concaved
simply cap because the little surface area for
the top piece does not warrant a more structurally
sound piece of acrylic design. Where the cap
is a concern are with penis & scrotum cylinders,
where the cap is larger and exposed to more
pressure. For these cylinders, you would select
a concave cap over a flat/straight cap as the
concave cap will not flex downwards into the
tube. This constant flex that a straight cap
displays can lead to a failure in the cylinder-wall
to cap joint. A concave cap is structurally
sound and will not flex.
Just
to let you know, the entire line of Dr Joel
Kaplan "tapered" cylinders
are molded into a single piece, therefore you
will not have to worry about the cap & cylinder
wall joint ever failing (since there are no
joints).
The
diameter
This is the internal diameter of the base of
the cylinder. Like a shoe, you must get into
the right sized penis cylinder. All penis cylinder
manufacturers run their sizes in 1/4 inch increments.
You may find penis cylinders anywhere from 1
1/2 inches all the way up to 2 1/2 inches, internal
diameter. We'll touch up on cylinder sizing
in the following articles.
3.
Lube
The last item you will need is the lube. The lube
is applied on your penis and the base of the cylnder.
Applied to your penis, the lube acts as a lube
within the cylinder so you don't get hung up in
the cylinder walls; it also allows the penis to
stretch easily. Applied to the base of the cylinder,
lube acts as a gasket, creating an airtight seal.
The thicker the lube, the easier it is to maintain
an airtight seal.
The
type of lube you select will be based on the type
of cylinder you select. You may use any kind of
lube, ie. hand lotion, on acrylic cylinders without
seals, but you MAY NOT
use any petroleum basd lube, i.e hand lotion on
any cylinders with a seal (like the
VelSeal
cylinder). For vinyl/silicone seals, you MUST
use either a water or vegetable based lube.
A
special pumpers lube has been developed for this
purpose called Glyde Pumpers Lube. This
lube is much thicker than water based lubes and
is smooth, light and not greasy in any way. Cleans
off equipment quickly with simple dish soap. It
is also infused with Vitamin E for softer skin!
To
determine a petroleum based lube, look for the
ingredients, Vaseline, Baby Oil, Mineral Oil,
Petroleum, Petrolatum, Parrafin, Mineral, or Parrafinium.
So
when you are looking for lube for pumping, the
thicker it is, the easier it is to maintain a
seal! And again, stay away from petroleum based
lubes like Vaseline if your equipment consist
of vinyl/silicone.
In
Conclusion
By now your head is probably spinning with all
these factors that go into selecting a penis pumping
system, but fret not my friends. We've come up
with our recommendations to make things a bit
simpler.
